Speaking Up

Nathan is normally really quiet and soft spoken, to the point where we make him practice using a strong voice. He always follows the rules and just goes along with what his coaches/teachers tell him to do. That’s why it was so surprising last night at baseball practice when we heard Nathan say, “Hey Coach! Can I take a turn pitching?”

Nathan is one of the two 9 year olds on the team. Which means he isn’t as accurate yet (throwing or hitting) as most of the other guys on his team. We could kind of picture his coach chuckle when Nathan asked to pitch. He let Nathan do it though, and that made Nathan’s night.

Dressed and ready

Zoey takes after me in some ways. One of them is that she is a goody-goody at school. The kid loves it. One night, she was so excited for the next day that she got completely dressed, shoes included. Put on her backpack, and passed out in her bed.

Love

heartcloud

It’s weird. There are so many things that I could write about love, but they all either sound way to sappy or have already been said thousands (millions) of times before. So, instead here is a random assortment of love.

A mother’s love
All’s fair in love and war
Love’s first kiss
Love don’t cost a thing

Love is…..
All you need.
A many splendored thing.
Blind.
In the air.

When you do what is better for the other person instead of what you want to do.
The reason you that even though a person has woken you up 10x’s in the same night you can still smile at them first thing in the morning.
Why someone lets you be grouchy with them, just because they know you’re tired.
Wanting to pummel someone to the ground and then rip their head off of their body because of the way they said/did something regarding your child.
Instantaneous, Rewarding, Aggravating, Humbling, Amazing.

Peace

Music

I’m back in elementary school and couldn’t run fast enough. Instead of skulking off to sit on a bench while my friends play, I’ll stick around for the game. Thanks Todd.

I don’t really listen to music that much, we like a quiet work environment (#7 is the reason for this policy). Most of the songs I listen too are kid songs or made up by me or one of the kids. “I’m a little person, walking up a mountain”.

As for the Tag, the conditions are simple: “List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.”

1. Can You Catch the Moon – Lisa Loeb and Elizabeth Mitchell
2. Let Me Go – Cake
3. Cabron – Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. Mozart’s Horn Concerto #3 in E Flat Major, KV447
5. Girls – Beastie Boys
6. So Far Away – Carole King
7. I’m ‘N Luv Wit A Stripper; Featuring Mike Jones – T-Pain (While I’m not really enjoying this song, it’s one of the few I have heard lately thanks to my officemate playing it 7x’s in a row this morning)

I’m not going to tag anyone specific, so if you want to do this, go for it!

How do you say it?

Dialects are interesting. 3 times this week I have heard the word salmon pronounced. Each time, slightly different and not once the same way that I would say it. It made me curious. Am I saying it incorrectly? Opinions are wanted. How do you, personally, pronounce salmon?

Weakness and Sorrow – combined

I have a weakness. I know, everyone is suprised to hear this fact. It’s not chocolate chip cookies, because despite these extra pounds I am carrying around, I can stop after just one. Every day, once, twice, ok about every hour I check my site stats to see how many people are looking at my site. It’s like a cheap little ego boost. You people care! You want to read all about me!! I’m popular!!!

and then – I see the stats, and it’s so sad. Sorrowful even. The same 4 hits I had 10 minutes ago.

Wait, Wait!

Allison’s new catchphrase is, “Wait, wait. Just as second, just a second.” and “I’m finding something”. She sounds like a little old lady all she needs is, “Dearie” at then end. Sometimes she uses it when she really needs to, like when she is still getting her shoes on and the rest of the kids are heading out the door. Other times she uses it to try and get away with something we have told her not to do.

“Allison, you had better stay out of my purse.”.
“Just a second, Mom. Just a second. I’m finding somefing”.

Updates

The new banner is thanks to Greg. I was watching this episode as part of the Project Runway marathon we have saved and when they said this, it totally cracked me up. If I didn’t sound so stupid when I cursed, I would totally try to incorporate this phrase into every day use.

Allison is doing much better about going to sleep. There is no more crying and screaming. There is a little fussing at first, then she settles down in her bed, talks to herself (or her stuffed animals) for a bit, calls to make sure we’re still in the house, and then falls asleep. It’s so much nicer. Yay!
