This week has been a little crazy. Here’s the list in no particular order (except the last thing which is totally most important.
1. Greg’s mom, sister and youngest brother got here early yesterday morning after driving from Southern California.
2. Zoey had/has a softball game Monday, Tuesday (same time as Nathan’s), Thursday, and Friday. Zoey’s team is in first place. Oh yeah!
3. Nathan had/has a baseball game Tuesday (same time as Zoey’s) and Thursday (thankfully the early one so I get to see him
Nathan’s team is undefeated and in first place. That’s right!
4. Easter is Sunday – still need to get some goodies
5. Today is Nathan’s Birthday!! It is really hard to believe it has been 9 years since we had that little sucker and life changed forever. I’m sure I’ll be saying this for the next few years, but buying things for a 9 year old is hard. He’s not quite a little kid anymore but he isn’t big enough for teenage stuff (heh, don’t teenagers just want money?) yet.
There’s much I want to say, but don’t quite know how to put it into words (especially words that don’t sound too sappy and sentimental). He’s such a good kid. Greg and I have been very lucky. While I miss the days when Nathan was tiny, I am looking foward to watching as he grows even more.
We have been watching the first season of Smallville on DVD. Nathan and Zoey really like it. We received the last disk of the dvd earlier last week but didn’t get around to watching it. Since we had put it off, the kids were even more eager to watch it. We watched the first episode on the disk. There are several things going on at the end. It looks like this could be where Lex turns into a bad guy, Lana is in serious danger (even more than the normal episode), and Ma and Pa Kent are in trouble on the farm. Very exciting things are happening when the episode flashes the “To Be Continued” on the screen. No big deal, right? We’ll just watch the next episode on the disk. Normally, the dvd’s have 3-4 episodes. This time the dvd only contained 1 episode. The cliffhanger episode.
The look on Nathan’s face was priceless. We got a few, “What the heck is going on here????!!!??” and “Where are the rest?” tossed in with some “That just isn’t right!”.
It was great.
Alas and alack, we did not have much of a chance for April fool’s day pranks. The first prank would have been fixing cereal with milk and spoon in bowl, then freezing. Zoey spent the night at a friends house and Nathan stayed up too late for me to accomplish this task.
Second prank would have been making some muffins for breakfast. Not just any muffins, but some broccoli and cheese muffins. Yum! No eggs were to be found in the house.
The rest of the day was spent at the opening day of softball where no prank oppertunities presented themselves. Towards the end of the day, we decided to order some pizza for dinner. Nathan and Zoey both had friends stay the night. If I haven’t talked about it before, our town is so small there are no pizza delivery services. This means a trip into town to pick up the eats. When I got back home, the girls and I were sorry to inform everyone that the ovens were broken and that meant we would be eating the soup I had been cooking all day. Not quite as elaborate as last year’s prank, but still pretty funny.
I have been selected for Jury Duty, doing that civic duty and all. The trial could possibly last until Thursday. This most likely means that there won’t be many posts for the next few days. Here are a few quick observations/slightly funny things I noticed today.
Sitting on a jury is like watching a really bad high school play. It’s a little like being in one also. The kind where you don’t have any lines and can see the play getting worse and worse.
It’s very odd when one of the lawyers forgets what he was going to say and just stops talking for a minute or 2. Almost as odd as when one of them is in the middle of a question, then just stops and says, “I release the witness”.
It’s funny when the judge gets onto the lawyers.
I am the youngest member of the jury. It’s me, a lady who is 33 but looks 45* , a few people who are actually in their 40′s, and the rest are all retired.
The lady sitting next to me keeps falling asleep.
Do most lawyers have slicked back hair?
*Seriously, do I look that old? Am I under some delusion that I look much younger than I actually do?
