I will eventually write up everything we did over Memorial Day Weekend (it was jam packed with fun). For now am going to jump to Sunday. It started out simple enough, everyone slept in a little. We had Braum’s for lunch, then spent a few hours visiting various friends and family.
Then we went to see the Texas Rangers play the Oakland A’s. Having no clue what the seating was like we opted for the Upper Reserved section. Only when we were on the 3rd escalator did we realize just how high up our seats really were. It has been documented several times that Nathan has acrophobia. He could not make himself go up that 3rd escalator. Instead he slowly went up the ramp with Greg. To make it worse, we were 3 rows from the very top. I felt really bad. If I had realized how high we were I would have gotten us seats in the Lower Reserved (Home Run) section. Next time, we’ll know.
We missed the 1st inning getting our tickets and finding our seats. Nathan was pretty nervous until the bottom of the 2nd inning when Jason Botts hit his first MLB career home run. As nervous as he was, Nathan couldn’t contain his excitement and stood up to cheer with everyone else.
The more relaxed Nathan felt, the better the game got. We had fun talking about the players and their stats. All of the kids got into doing the wave. Allison liked doing it so much that she would jump up on our laps with her arms ready in the air.
After the game we went to the lower section to take a look at the field and compare it to the Little League size. Nathan, being himself (who else would he be) stated, “Yeah, they look about the same”.
We were shopping at a bookstore on Sunday. Nathan, Zoey, and Allie all head towards the children’s section with the Thomas setup. Allison always manages to find a stuffed buddy to hang out with while moving the trains along the track. When it was almost time to go, she informed us that the horse was going with us.
“I think the horse needs to stay at his house.”
“No, Mom. He needs to come home with us.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Really Mom! He told me he was coming with us. Right horse?”, holding the horse to her ear, “Naaayyy.”
“See Mom, he said ‘Yes!’. He does want to come home with us and it’s OK, he can.”
Last night Nathan’s team played the easiest team to go against in their league. When they got far enough ahead the coach (have I already mentioned how much we like Nathan’s coach this year?) decided he was going to give some of the younger guys a chance to play infield. He basically left an experienced guy at 1st base and catcher.
The first inning of the switch, Nathan played 2nd base. We all knew that he has been wanting to be the pitcher all season. Enough that he spoke up to the coach to practice it a bit. The next (and final inning) Nathan got his chance.
For his first time pitching in a game, he did GREAT! The first person he pitched 2 strikes then the batter got a base hit. He struck out the 2nd batter out then walked the next 2 (one full count and one 4-1) to load the bases. After that he struck out the last batter of the game. Even though many of the guys on the other team were swinging at anything, 4 of Nathan’s 12 strikes thown were not swung on. When it was all over, the coach gave Nathan the game ball.
All of the parents and coaches kept telling him to “Throw the ball harder!” but he didn’t hear us. Next time he gets a chance he is going to bring the heat and we’ll remember to bring the video camera.
There hasn’t really been anything interesting going on lately. We’re pretty much in a routine. I could write about all of the season finales on TV (which would partly explain why nothing new has been going on at the house) but they have been written about better than I could already. When I get the pictures/video organized I’ll do a post about Zoey’s softball season. It ended last week. Baseball is still going strong for another month and a half. It’s nice not to have to worry about missing one to watch the other. All in all, that’s pretty much it. Oh and Happy anniversary to all of our friends who got married this month!
Just about every day when I come home for lunch/after work, Allison is hiding from me. Most of the time she is behind the sofa, in her little Dora tent, or under a blanket. Friday when I came home from lunch this is how I found her.
Baseball and softball are going really well for the kids this year. Nathan and Zoey each have coaches that are not only making the game fun, but teaching them great fundamentals. Nathan’s team started out the season with a bang. His team is mostly 10 year olds in the 9-10 year old division, meaning most of the boys have played in the player pitch league before. Now the other teams are starting to get the hang of it and actually giving Nathan’s team a run for their money.
Monday was a pretty rough night for Nathan. His first up to bat he took a hit to the lower back. Near the end of the clip, where the coach miraculously disappears, there was a 2 minute time out while they checked him out and made him walk around a bit. He’s tough though and kept on playing. Later that night, he slipped running on a wet floor and banged his head pretty good. Bad news is the goosegg on the back of his head. Good news is he got to stay up late!
Zoey’s team is sooooo much better than the other teams. She is playing coach pitch. They have a rule where a team is only allowed 5 runs in per inning. They have the innings called on average of 2 times in a 4-5 inning game. It’s great to watch Zoey play. She really enjoys it. She is gangly but runs quick and has been hitting the ball every at bat for her past 3 games.
I haven’t made a new post lately. Just waiting on the video In the mean time, I have the weirdest search string. They are usually pretty boring. Whoever is searching for “teenage girls wearing diapers and pullups” will surely be disappointed. No one in the house is a teenager and we have been done with pullups and diapers for a few months now.
I have updated this post. Brenda found a picture of Nathan and Zoey in their Costumes for 2000. Thanks Brenda! Wow, they look so small.
