Recyling

I started with these jeans.

I used a great tutorial I found at Savvy Seams.

I ended up with this. Yes, I know it’s wrinkled. If it doesn’t bother me, it shouldn’t bother you.

Opening day

Let’s first start off with my schedule for the day.

11:00 am – be at softball field for Zoey’s 11:30 game
11:30 am – be at baseball field for Nathan’s 12:00 opening ceremonies (Zoey’s game begins)
12:00 pm – Nathan’s opening ceremonies begins (we miss this for Zoey’s game)
12:45 pm – pick Nathan up and grab some quick lunch inside McDonald’s. We never eat inside, the kids thought it was very cool.
2:30 pm to 3:45 pm – work the concession stands at softball field
3:00 pm – Team pictures for baseball
5:00 pm – Nathan’s game

All around a busy day. Zoey’s team is pretty good. Almost all of them hit the ball each at bat. She and two other girls trade positions between short stop, second base and a rover that backs up the second base position. Zoey made some great stops, she didn’t let any balls get by her. She also hit the ball each time she went to bat. On one of her hits, she made a line drive between second and third base that got her 2nd base. Zoey’s team ended up winning 9-4. This was the first real game of softball for many of the girls on the other team, so the next time they play each other it is going to be even closer.

There is such a difference between watching the girls and the boys. The girls are much more laid back, they do cheers in the dugout, the parents laugh and cheer along. With the boys, things are much more serious. The parents watch and get into the game, but there is more of a business like attitude. Things seem more intense.

Conditions were perfect for the first game of the season. It had been threatening to rain all day, but by 5pm the clouds had lightened up and the sun started peaking out from behind them. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. Nathan didn’t burn up in his catcher’s gear which is a good thing because he ended up catching all game. The game seemed like a breeze for Nathan’s team. The pitchers for his team were excellent, throwing strikes so hardly anyone got on base. Over all a pretty unexciting game.

There were two plays of Nathan’s which stand out. The first was when the other team scored their only run. There was a player on third. The batter hit a base hit to the pitcher, who threw it to Nathan to get the guy running out. The toss wasn’t good and it went over Nathan’s head. The guy scored, but Nathan kept his cool, grabbed the ball and threw the batter out at second base for the third out of the inning. The other play happened towards the end of the game. Nathan had been walked (in all, he struck out once and was walked twice). He made his way to third then on a crazy pitch stole home scoring the 9th run.

Even though the schedule was hectic, it turned out to be a great opening day for the kids.

If I have time to get them off of the camera, I’ll post some pictures this evening.
