Stuck in the mud. We went out at lunch today to take a look at the tad poles. Allison was going to catch some in her pail until she started getting more and more stuck in the mud. After she tried to pull her foot free for a few seconds she asked if she could just leave it there. Eventually she wiggled free.

I watched the movie “Idiocracy” a while ago. If you haven’t seen it but want to, you probably shouldn’t read much more. It may give some of the movie away. I thought it was funny, but what I didn’t expect was how after watching it, I see something outside of the movie and think, “Holy crap, the movie is actually happening.”
In the movie Brawndo is used for everything, even watering the plants. The reasoning, “It’s got Electrolytes!”. It wasn’t very long after seeing the movie that Gatorade came out with the Tiger version. Is golfing really that strenuous? I mean, you drive around on a cart from hole to hole. Do golfers really need their own special version of Gatorade? When you start feeling dehydrated, shouldn’t you just drink some water?
The president in the movie was elected because he was a famous wrestler or something similar. Last week, our presidential candidates were on WWE. I’m sure they were trying to reach a broader audience. How can they expect to be taken seriously? Would this be accepted in any other country?
Our schools are not teaching children to excel, they are teaching them to get by. Potential brilliance is being lost because teachers do not have the resources or time to cultivate young eager minds. As a result, the human race is becoming stupider. Sure we have achieved some technological progress, but compared to the inventions and genius of our ancestors, they seem trivial. Instead of trying to find cures for horrible diseases, pharmaceutical companies are developing pills that will help you lose weight faster or help out in the bedroom. Where are the great human achievements of our generation? When future generations look back will our only contribution to society be TIVO and flat screens?
*yes, I get that these invented because they were discovered as side effects of drugs they thought could fix heart disease, but that isn’t the point.
The craft inspirations of Isabel continue. Making magnets turned out to be a huge success. It was such fun. Instead of pictures, we used some of Zoey’s crafting paper. She cuts it down to squares and uses it for origami, but we bought it in the scrapbooking section of our store. They have some pretty cool patterns.
It’s probably not a project for anyone under about 7 years old. The little sisters weren’t quite up for precision cutting. Instead, they opted to make us some pictures and decorate them with the glass beads. No big deal, these suckers come in a bag of about 200. How many magnets can one refrigerator hold?
The big sisters got way more creative than I did. Me? I just cut out some places that I thought looked neat in the paper. The girls made different shapes, glued the pieces of paper together, added some glitter, then put together the whole magnet. They thought it was awesome how the glass magnified the image. Simple science and crafting goodness all at the same time.
The sleepover was a huge success. Saturday the girls swapped houses and Allison had her first real, stay the whole night, sleepover. It must have been so much fun because she told me that she did not miss me at all.
Somehow it worked out that all three of the kiddos are sleeping over with friends.
Sure we could have gone out to eat, but that would require driving out of town and there is a good possibility that we will be getting a call around bedtime with an urgent request to bring Allison home to her bed. I could have also cooked something incredibly fancy. I took the easy route. Because we are such romantics, we didn’t eat dinner in the same room. Instead, Greg watched NBA playoffs while setting up his new computer and I am in the living room with my laptop watching girlie shows. Never fear, there are plans to watch Juno in about 30 minutes, we will actually be spending some time together.
What do you do on your obligation free evenings?
Today is the day to be inspired by Isabel. Some acquaintances recently had a new baby (like last week). I think it would be super if this couple wanted to be our friends. We haven’t really found anyone to do things with since we moved to our little town over 6 years ago*. They are about our age and have daughters Zoey and Allison’s age (plus their new baby boy). In order to impress them with a fantastic gift, I followed Isabel’s advice and made some custom baby tees.
As mentioned on today’s Project 366 entry, the new dad was seriously trying to get his wife to name the baby Anakin. You know, Darth Vader before he crosses over. He did not succeed in his quest. There is suspicion that it was just to get his wife to say okay to making the baby a junior. That didn’t work out for him either. Poor guy.
As a consolation, I whipped up some Star Wars themed baby tees. I had to use Gerber tees, because that is all they had a the store. Given the choice I would have picked something a little more sturdy. These seemed pretty thin. Low quality of the tee and all, I think they turned out pretty cute.
Tonight their daughters are having a sleep over at our house. Tomorrow I think we are going to try and make the magnets that Isabel showed how to make today. Looks like it will be fun for everyone.
*Good grief, has it really been that long?
Zoey’s softball coach and his wife just had a new baby. Inside are some baby tees and a gift for the mom.
We have known this couple for a year or two now. It sounds a little lame, but the more we get to know them, the more we like them. They have daughters who are Zoey and Allison’s age and they all get along. I feel like we should invite them over and make them hang out with us and be our best friends in this little town. We can get together and braid hair and paint toes and things.
