We have 3 computers in the house. Greg’s, the kids’, and my laptop. I call it mine, because it is. In this house filled with clutter and people, it is the one thing that is completely mine. I am greedy with it. No one else uses it because they have their own computers. It is mine, all mine. Do not put your dirty mitts on my precious keyboard. Whew, got that out of my system.
I have had my laptop for about a year and a half. It worked great for the first nine months, then the wireless network card started flaking out. No problem, it was under warranty. I sent it in and got it back 5 days later. Three months later, it started flaking out again. This time, it was after the warranty period. Instead of paying their support to replace the part, I just bought a new network card. Everything was running smoothly.
This weekend there was a chance that we would be staying the night away for Zoey’s softball tournament. This is what laptops were made for right? We could check hotel rates and book a room. I would still be able to post my picture of the day. We could look up movie times and get early tickets without waiting in line. Instead, when I turned on the computer, it beeped loudly at me. It was saying, “I refuse to display any video on the monitor, Sucker!”
I just knew that sometime this week, I would either bite the bullet and find money in the budget for a new laptop, or I would be back to sharing with the kids. Poor, poor me. It’s not even like we all have to share one computer. I would be sharing with the kids, who aren’t even on the computer after 8pm. Some people don’t even have one computer in their whole house (these people need to move into the 21′st century) and I am sad because we might downsize to a two computer household. Spoiled and materialistic much?
Lucky me, my laptop’s problems fall within an extended warranty. HP is sending me pre-paid packaging and I should be able to watch movies (I mean update my blog) from my bed again next week. I am completely spoiled.
Do you have anything that you feel the same way about?

My laptop. Absolutely. I don’t even like people looking at it. Not even my husband, who is allowed to see me naked.
I’m a little touchy about my kitchen, too, although I’m loosening up on that one. Sometimes my angst is easier to overcome than a screeching infant
Only THREE computers?!? Yes, I’m a little protective of my laptop. Mainly because the kids have their own computer and between Josh’s computer, iPod and laptop (not to mention his two servers) nobody should have to use my computer … right? I do eventually give in though.
What is more important than a computer and internet connection nowadays. I don’t understand how people even live with dial-up. That would be like living next door to Krispy Kreme but only being able to smell the donuts and not eat them.
I don’t think I have anything that I don’t like sharing. I do feel like the laptop is sort of mine. I don’t like Nyla chewing on my cell phone but that is because I don’t think it is good for either of them.
I gave up a lot of privacy when we moved in with my mother-in-law. My computer is MINE. One day I made the mistake of not shutting it down before I left for work and later found out my brother-in-law had used it. I was so pissed. I’m not sure why. He just looked up something online for his mom, but I would never walk into his home and assume that I could just get on his computer. Now I have a laptop that goes with me to work.
Of course, the few elephants I have unpacked in our room are off limits. The grandkids know I will break fingers.
I feel that way about my desktop. The two times I’ve shared it, it’s acted flaky (reset itself out of nowhere in the middle of the night?), and it has my precious photos on it (those that are not yet backed up). Any little glitch, and I’m burning holes in the back of people’s heads for looking at YouTube or whatever with my desktop. (our previous au pair had a password on her laptop, so we can’t get it to the new one yet – aargh!) Does that count?
lol….I just had mine replaced…I didn’t get a new one, it was out of warranty. David’s work was giving away a bunch of broken computers. So he pieced togather a laptop out of a moutain of broken laptops. So I now have a free laptop..whoo hoooo….
I can’t think of anything I feel that possessive over, which is odd, what with me being an only child and all, since people have told me over and over that we only children are selfish and spoiled and never learned to share. Although I am looking forward to when I don’t have to share my computer with roommates anymore . . .
