Monkeys in a tree

9/19/08 – Day 263

This is the weather vane that on top of a historical building on the square. Maybe someday I will get some decent pictures of the building.

9/18/08 – Day 262

Striking red flowers in someone’s yard. Glad noone was home. I must have looked crazy.

9/17/08 – Day 261

Our little town actually has a town square. There is a pretty neat little alcove with marble tables and benches. It reminds me of a grotto somewhere.

9/16/08 – Day 260

Reading the book I picked out for the next round of SDBBE.

Hunkering

We were pretty lucky. The wind blew, and it rained a little. Some branches fell but we didn’t lose any whole trees. Fifteen miles in all directions was a different story. For us, it was more of an adventure. A little like a camp out in our own house. We played Metro, ate salads, listened to the radio, read books, and did crafts.

Feeling the winds

You could see the light bulb pop over Zoey’s head when she said, “This is how they lived before electricity!”. Yeah, if you take away our laptop, battery backups, cell phones and multiple radio stations that were able to give us some idea of what was going on in the rest of the world. Some times it seems like such a pain, but we are pretty privileged to live in a time when with just the click of a button we can find out what is taking place in the world around us. We can actually feel like we are a part of a global society.

Our power came back on right before kickoff for the Chargers at Denver game. I like to think someone was playing a practical joke on Greg. “Sure, sure! We’ll let you watch the game!”, and then sticking out their tongue to blow rasberries at each crazy thing that happened to give Denver the win.

9/15/08 – Day 259

While we were out and about, we saw this guy and his spooky ride. Allison, "He has spiderweb tattoos?? Where, where? I have got to see them!"

9/14/08 – Day 258

A few years ago Greg’s mom gave him a crank radio as a gift. It got us through the weekend with weather updates, “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me”, and the first set of football games.

9/13/08 – Day 257

When the electricity went out, Allison became a balladeer. She grabbed Zoey’s guitar and started walking around the room singing us some lovely tunes.
